I think this is what Catrinas would look like, ghostly body with the skull quite visible, the face paint is just an interpretation a scared townspeople would describe a spooky encounter with one.

I started this with Singer Rosalia in mind but in hindsight, since she’s from Spain it could look kind of insulting to this Mexican folklore, but it was unintentional tbh, my bad.
